1. Data controller+

This site is operated by BlackGenius Canada, a non-profit organization (NPO) in the process of incorporating in Quebec, with official incorporation expected in July 2026. For any question about your data, write to contact@blackgeniuscanada.org.

2. Data collected+

We collect only the data strictly necessary for our activities:

  • Enrollment forms: child's first and last name and date of birth, school, grade level, academic results, contact information of the parent or legal guardian.
  • Contact, volunteer and donation forms: name, email, phone, free-text message.
  • Newsletter: email address only.
  • Technical data: anonymized IP address, browser, page viewed (traffic statistics).
3. Purposes of use+

Your data is used exclusively to:

  • Process your enrollment, volunteer, donation or contact request.
  • Communicate information about our nonprofit's programs and events.
  • Issue official receipts for donations (post-incorporation, CRA status).
  • Improve the quality of the site and programs (anonymized statistics).

We never sell your data. We only share it with technical service providers strictly necessary to our operations (Cloudflare hosting, Stripe payment processing to come), bound by confidentiality agreements.

4. Protection of minors+

Report cards, academic profiles and photos of children are governed by a written confidentiality commitment signed by every parent who is a member of our nonprofit. No information identifying a child is published without the explicit written consent of the parent or legal guardian.

Event photos are taken with prior authorization and can be withdrawn at any time upon simple request. You can grant or withdraw this authorization online via our image rights authorization form.

5. Retention period+
  • Enrollment data of member children: duration of membership + 5 years (educational archives).
  • Volunteer contact information: duration of engagement + 2 years.
  • Donation data: 7 years (Canadian tax obligations).
  • Newsletter: until unsubscription.
  • Anonymized technical data: 13 months.
6. Your rights (Bill 25)+

In accordance with Bill 25, you have the following rights at all times:

  • Right of access: know what data we hold about you.
  • Right of rectification: correct any inaccurate information.
  • Right to erasure: request the deletion of your data (except for legal obligations).
  • Right to portability: receive a copy of your data in a structured format.
  • Right to object: refuse certain processing (marketing, profiling).

7. Cookies+

The BlackGenius Canada website uses no advertising tracking cookies. Only technical cookies strictly necessary for the site's operation may be placed.

8. Complaints+

In the event of a dispute, you may contact the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (cai.gouv.qc.ca).

9. Changes+

This policy may be updated. The last update date appears at the top of the page. For any substantial change, members will be notified by email.
